On what level can we as individuals make a change?

On what level can we as individuals make a change?

Nicky Murray

I wrote this song in protest of two things related to the fossil fuel industry. The first is the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) that is being built in North Dakota just now. A 1,172-mile-long pipeline built to transfer crude oil, whilst ripping up sacred land of the natives, as well as seriously affecting the water supply, and in turn the health and well-being of the people in the process. The second is in aid of Cromarty Rising (a little closer to home), in the protest against the ship-to-ship transferring of crude oil in the Moray Firth. These transfers pose an indefinite and serious threat to our only pod of bottlenose dolphins in Scotland, as well as to much more of our sea life. Both transfers have several alternatives but are only interested in profit, with complete disregard to our sacred sea life that we co-exist with. Several scientific studies have been conducted to reveal that this is bad news, but they will not listen, and have proven that once again – “cash is king”. I hope to raise awareness of these issues through this song, and I also vow to help our efforts financially as well.
