My Letter to 2017

Esme Leitch

"My Letter to 2017" starts by exploring how current affairs and the media can change our values, for example I mention the change from worrying about values of humanity to national security. The second paragraph looks at the wider world in 2017. It reflects how power has been used cruelly leading to trust being broken and the world's security and traditions being continually jeopardised. In the third paragraph, I look at the year from my eyes and the values I have gained. In this piece I tried to convey how our own values can seemingly conflict each other but still work together. For example I contrast the importance of independence and true friendship and looked at the connection between achievement and recovery and inner peace. The letter ends with a final acknowledgement of 2017 and finishes with a sense of humility, an acceptance of flaws and open-mindedness for starting 2018.
