Morrissey Shrine: The Mozziah

Morrissey Shrine: The Mozziah

Rosie WIlson

My piece tried to address the difficulty of belonging and belief in an age where religion’s place in society is in decline. In this, I tried to answer the question of whether art and culture could be a meaningful substitute for religion, due to the importance of everyone finding their own meaning. I drew upon the ideology of cultural icons, using Morrissey, to demonstrate how young people may try to find their own meaning through their following of artistic and celebrity heroes. Within this, I also wanted to warn against how sinister the height of fanatic celebrity obsession can become.
