Melancholy

Melancholy

Sagnick Mukherjee

This piece is an electroacoustic composition for the ukulele. Being very subjective and open ended, it can be interpreted in various different ways, and inspires a range of reactions from different people. To me personally, this piece is about life away from the comfort and familiarity of home - how daunting, yet liberating the experience can be, and how rewarding it is. It is really very simple, yet it can be quite confusing as distractions and disenchantment can make us lose focus. Like life, the piece is full of contradictions, both conceptually and structurally. I also wanted to somehow represent the two things that I first noticed about Scotland - the cold of the weather, and the warmth of the people.
