Hope

Hope

John Hannah

This poem follows the self-destructive tendencies of humanity, particularly with regard to the environment but also with regard to the collapse of our societal values. I think that greed and ignorance are more prevalent than ever and it is these two human traits which cause tragedies in the UK and throughout the world. Though in many ways we as a species are making progress I can't help but shake the feeling, especially in light of recent events, that humanity’s resistance to positive change and indulgence in many backwards attitudes will lead to the destruction of things many of us now take for granted, including the lives of others. It is there for my belief that individualism is destroying the planet and civilised society, and that without substantial and radical change ever more tragedies will ensue.
