Cartilage

Harli-Rose Griffin

My entry is all about what it means to be human. This theme is very close my heart as I struggle with a lot of mental health issues. They include High Functioning Autism, which can alienate you and set you apart from your peers, Borderline Personality Disorder (EUPD) which comes with a stigma of manipulation, and Severe Anxiety, which so many people struggle from it has now become commonplace. It can drown those who suffer in feelings of invalidation.

One in four people will struggle. They'll become monsters to themselves. They’ve never been away from their minds; they don't know what it means to be free and they don’t know how to help themselves.

This short is also traditional horror story; the philosophy of ‘Self’ takes precedence as a theme in the psychological torment of our Anti-Hero. With gore and a stream-of-consciousness style of writing, it can be taken as an opinion on humanity as a whole, which it is not.

This short story is really about how everyone feels like a monster when they are so mentally low. It is how we act that sets us apart from our demons.
