'Frankie' explores not just the themes of female empowerment and depression, but more the value of trying to do the right thing, despite an increasingly desperate situation. The titular character sets off on a road trip with the simple and pure intention of trying to cheer up her grieving boyfriend. She has greatly underestimated just how grim he is feeling, as she finds out when she wakes to find that he has taken his own life via overdose. What follows is her struggle to complete the trip with him, (or rather his corpse) as she thinks he would wish to. Along the way she is forced into a brief but exceedingly humane kidnapping to avoid legal trouble, which again ends in tragedy. Frankie is a strong female lead character struggling through a week’s worth of bad days, always striving to be true to herself and those she cares about.
