Elegy Written Behind a Sycamore

Callum Hardwick

My entry is an elegy, which is focused on the common human tragedy - death. Everyone has lost someone, or something. Loss is a common aspect of human life, and therefore is deliberated upon universally. My specific piece concerns a friend who I lost in a tragic car accident. Life is short, and I wrote this poem for cathartic reasons primarily, and to learn more about life secondly. Life can be stripped at any moment, and therefore we should not linger upon death, and let sentiment plague our daily lives. We should use it as an impetus to better ourselves, for their sake, for ours, and for the good of the world.
