Eleanor Begg

A series of three oil paintings sized A1 on board, they stand side by side to express a personal struggle with self-validation and a fight to break free from others' opinions and expectations. The work symbolises a new venture into creative freedom. The process of painting was in this case as equally important to me as the final outcome. It doubled as a kind of therapy in a time of poor mental and physical health. Working as a distraction and focus while painting and then with hindsight I am able to look back on these works and recognise things I was feeling that I maybe wouldn’t have been able to detect otherwise. In terms of creating for other viewers I invite people to see these with an open mind and see them through their own personal outlook. For me they are a vessel of thought. Created in bright colours and instinctive line I hope the outcome is one of optimism and a new sense of excitement and intrigue.
