Delicacies of Tradition

Delicacies of Tradition

Catherine Hopkins

My piece explores the values of respect of tradition within the art community. This piece explores the traditional values of print making and how some people are stuck within the traditional methods of print making and that some artists would almost find my methods of producing this piece almost blasphemous. I used a mix of lino relief cut, water colour gouache and acrylic to create this piece. This piece shows that you can have respect for tradional methods but also break the traditions to create a successful piece. With this piece I used watercolour paints in place of printing ink to create the main focus of this piece, I have used this method to break the traditional ways of printing to create a different result which combines the boldness of relief printing with the translucency of water colour to help blur the lines of traditions.
