There are over 6,000 suicides that occur in the UK alone every year, this means that there is one death caused by suicide every two hours. Although statistics across the UK have dropped slightly in the past few years, Scotland has seen a rise of 728. Depression and suicidal thoughts have been increasingly affecting young people, and suicide has now become a leading cause of death among people aged between 20-34 years. After experiencing severe depression myself, I understand the difficulties facing people with these thoughts, and how difficult it is to talk to people about it. A few months ago, I did have very suicidal thoughts and I did try to end my life. I only have vague memories of that night: having blurred vision, not being able to move my body and being unable to feel my legs. I remember when I moved my hand it was blurry, like it was slowed down. That is why I have decided to submit these photographs. I think it is important to share our stories with others to let people know they are not alone. People are scared to talk about their mental health, but if we share it with others whether it be in a creative way or just our story, it will make people feel more confident to talk to people about their feelings and seek support.
