Tree of Life

Aimee Brownlie

The painting expresses spirituality as it explores the relation between the design of trees and the circulatory system. The necessity of these for life and their complexity points to the existence of God. The branches of the tree represent arteries branching out like they do in the human body, functioning to pump oxygenated blood from the heart to the body's tissues. The Bible states that, 'the life of the flesh is in the blood' - Leviticus 17:11. Blood is essential for life and the complexity of the tree depicts the complexity and design of our circulatory system. The roots of the tree branch deep down into the ground for water and minerals and also support the tree. The nutrients travel upward and into the leaves. This is similar to the job of arteries which also function in the transportation of essential nutrients.

Watercolour painting, spirituality, 29.7 x 45cm.
