A Social Drought

Steven Borland

As with all of my artwork, the messages/imagery are interpretive. I've always felt that, as soon as an artist labels a piece with meanings, it almost defeats the purpose of allowing the viewer to feel.

Whilst writing this piece, I adapted a personal interpretation of several meanings. The main one being that technology has the potential to manipulate our most basic thoughts and functions. Being a pacifist, another way, in which the words spoke to me, is that violence and war are, in my opinion, a cowardly and temporary solution to the turmoils of life.

All in all, I hope that this poem has the potential to open the mental eyes of the reader and hopefully bring together a sense of harmonious community and tranquil love.
