Where We Were

Gus Harrower

'Where We Were' illustrates my hopes and fears for the world we live in. I believe that every individual in this world has their rights and should be respected equally and I think that the majority of the population feels that way too. However, it is sad to see that the minority of people that don't is currently in power. I think that pop music speaks about everything but the really important issues and with this song I wanted to voice my opinion. Written during a time of political distress, I needed to put my feelings into a song. I feel some of the things happening in the world is so barbaric and medieval hence the idea of moving back to 'Where We Were'. When I watched the news I found it too frustrating to be able to not speak about it. Producing my own work gives me a lot of freedom to do what I want instrumentally and with this song I wanted to create a unique sound as I don't see why music should have to stick within a certain genre. Lyrically I tried to input themes and ideas that were current such as refugees, fake news and standing up to evil however this is just my take on the song. Whenever I write it may mean one thing to me but something entirely different to another person. This is the beauty of song writing.
