Tessellate

Tessellate

Rowan May

This piece is named ‘Tessellate’ in relation to not only its definition; to be exact,
‘cover (a plane surface) by repeated use of a single shape, without gaps or
overlapping’ which relates to my piece as I have used repeated patterns
throughout it, symmetrically and intricately; but also it’s relation to the song
Tessellate by Alt-J. This song discusses shapes in the lyrics, along with the beat
running through it, creating a relaxed mood, which to me, is perfect to go along
with my fine liner drawing as it just seems to be discussing the relaxation and
composure arranging shapes together creates. As if it could release anxiety or
tension, which, I have found for myself is very accurate. One of the main lyrics in
this song is ‘Triangles are my favourite shapes’ and personally, I do have to
agree, as the intricacy I can add to them is unmeasurable, and the patterns I can
create unlimited.
