Insecurities

Insecurities

Tamara Hawkes

In my piece I investigated methods of distortion to convey insecurities, this process began by exploring how tape could deform the face. I found inspiration by looking at photographer Wes Naman who created a photo series of people wrapped in scotch tape, he came up with the concept whilst wrapping presents. I made my own series of drawings, and collages using my photographs of people I wrapped in tape including myself. For my final piece I chose to do a large scale painting of a small collage from a combination of 3 faces merged into one portrait. This was to represent how people want to change features and copy the appearance of others. The tape portrays a feeling of being uncomfortable and trapped in you're on body.
