In today's society, there is a crippling pressure from social media and others to be happy all the time. From this pressure comes an urge to find that happiness at the bottom of a glass or in the notifications from your phone. The reality is that many people are far from happy - 30% of teens with depression will develop a substance abuse because to simulate happiness through drugs is seen as their only option. Society doesn't accept dark thoughts and when they are discovered they are forced out and "cured". This painting shows the public persona put on by people to hide what lies beneath.
