Autumn Leaf Swing

Autumn Leaf Swing

Autumn Leaf Swing

Stuart Waitt

The remit was to make a site-specific installation. I made a swing out of Autumn leaves from the tree it now hangs from. The leaves were dipped in glue and compressed together and finally protected on either side by Perspex. The swing focuses on the value Humanity. In this project, I concentrated on creating unity with nature. The idea of the swing was to reconnect the fallen leaves with the tree they had fallen from so that they could blow in the wind again highlighting the repetition in nature. The Perspex on either side shows how mankind is controlling the world of beauty whilst also trying to preserve it. The swing is also an icon of children stressing enjoyment and excitement in life never grows old. I think the swing is different to anything that I have ever seen before as it is pleasing to the eye, made from natural and manmade materials and also functional creating variation in life as it is unlike a conventional swing that you would see in a play park.
