Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

This series of five risograph prints are my response to the saying ‘actions speak louder than words.’ People say things but often their behaviour does not correspond with what is said. This series of work is investigation into that observation. My work generally reflects my interest in people, place and human behaviour. I enjoy exploring these by combining social commentary with gestural characters, in a hope to make work that is clear and engaging.
I feel this work falls under the value of ‘Honesty’, but also touches on others such as self- discipline and social justice. Each print is based on the opposite of the word it corresponds with, depicting various dishonest actions and situations. I found examples of opposites that I felt could relate to the human condition, exploring themes such as alcoholism and violence and other more symbolic themes such as ‘empty and full’ and ‘high and low’.
