Building a Divide

Building a Divide

Building a Divide

Ninian Gibson

My entry is a line drawing animation. I wanted to show the distance between the richest and the poorest in society through a building and the people who live there. I started to think about how regardless of the economic factors in society we are all the same- we are all human and, though it is not the reality, that should surely mean we should be equal. The animations show that in the morning we all wake up together and that it’s the place we wake up in that defines us, be it the street or a top floor apartment overlooking the city.

I think that it is important that we keep fighting not only against the repression of the divided society but also against the inequality’s that have crept in to our modern lives and are getting harder to shake off. I find it repulsive that even today women still are not respected enough to have the same pay as men and see that through the expanding problems in the economy this trend seems only to be getting worse. For me, I found that I personally need to keep reminding myself that it can get better and that if everyone has the mind-set that it can, it will.
