Hypocrisy

Katie O'Neil

My story looks at the theme of social justice. It introduces several characters who have comfortable lives and decide to make a token gesture towards helping others. However the characters are trying to appease their social conscience and, below the surface, they remain judgemental of others. They are hypocritical in their values: whilst outwardly they talk about supporting worthy causes, inwardly they are more interested in their own well-being. I believe that, overall, we could do more to help those in need and make society more equal. There is widespread poverty in Scotland, for example, and I feel people should unite against this. Instead of being selfish and insincere, we should look for ways in which our actions can have a real impact on those in need.
