Watching Paint Dry

Joe Donald

Humanity- The inspiration for my piece titled "Watching Paint Dry" was the humanity branch of the circumplex. My piece best fits into this section due to the message of social advancement at the centre of my own personal journey. Though it is a story of personal development and self-direction, the overarching theme is how we as a society can come together to not just better understand ourselves, but also our community. I want people to get a sense of hope from this piece, that in an era defined by extremism and polarisation it is the rational thinkers and the people who seek to communicate with those who oppose them that will have a lasting impact on the world. I truly believe that immeasurable improvements can be made to each others’ lives by simply trying to understand one another. In a time of seemingly perpetual conflict, it should provide a beacon of hope to those who can fathom a post-fanaticised world.
