This piece of work I have created studies the theme of a world of beauty, and how when surrounded by news of trouble and exposure to anger and societies fractures, stripping these away really forces us to appreciate our surroundings. The piece was produced upon the idea of cutting and taking material away, to produce something new. In society, if we subtract the friction between those with different beliefs and force ourselves to adopt a “cup half full approach”, I believe that like this we would be able to appreciate all that we have. The piece is created by cutting away material and projecting light through the gaps, with the idea that without our struggles to accept indifferences and tendency to dispute our opposing views, if we purely look at the positives our world has to offer, we can recognize and appreciate our world of beauty. The work features the buildings and text that I view on my way to Art School every day in Dundee.
