Double vision (noun) - "the simultaneous perception of two images, usually overlapping, of a single scene or object." In this one of one hand-painted denim jacket from my recent collection of work, I wanted to explore the intrinsic value of reusability, specifically with garments. In most cases when I make a jacket or other wearable piece I can spend days or weeks working on it. For this particular jacket, it was weeks. I was initially uninspired by my first result so I left it for a while to gather ideas. When I returned to work on it I was immediately inspired to add pieces of imagery directly over my original result, which got me thinking about the value of reusing, both in terms of ideas and materials. The title "Double Vision" is a direct response to my attempt to reuse an old work to create something new. The value of reusability for me comes from allowing my original thoughts or ideas to remain within the work whilst simultaneously harmonising with new imagery. I encourage everyone to rethink and reuse work they perceive to not be worth it.
