Fish in the Tank

Anonymous

I wrote this poem, inspired by an old peoples' home I was walking past. It's about a lady with dementia who no one really visits anymore. My poem represents the values of 'tradition', specifically honouring elders. Everyday I see elderly people struggling to be noticed, to be at all relevant to this world. Elderly people are invisible in society's eyes, and I want to help make them be taken into account. I don't want to see elderly people being ignored and unacknowledged, brushed off as though they mean nothing.

This piece also represents the values of social justice - to make every single human being count, no matter their age, gender, social status or race.
