Heartbroken

Heartbroken

Evie Thomson

This is an acrylic painting which was inspired by an image that I found on the internet while I was researching facial representation of different emotions. I wanted to portray vulnerability which is a complex emotion common to us all at times. It is often thought of as a weakness in our society; however I believe that to acknowledge it can make us stronger.

Vulnerability can make people feel dependant and childlike, so in this painting I tried to make the girl look younger by enlarging her eyes and making her look upwards as if she is small and helpless. I also wanted to focus on the facial features so I made the background simple to create drama and emphasise the uncertainty of her mood. For this painting I was mainly influenced by Cesar Biojo as I like his realistic style but also how he focuses on the subject of the painting by having minimalistic backgrounds.
