Not My Body

Erin Crombie

When I'm preparing to do a piece of art the motivation is always communication. That is communication of some feeling or experience to others, it's about capturing something felt. I am always overwhelmed when someone else views it and the feeling it evokes in them is true to the one that inspired me to paint it. It is so rewarding and makes me feel a deep connection with others. This particular piece was about a sensation of isolation, an apartness from the world. I think the values most important to my art are kindness and security. Because I create art more for other people than for myself. The value is not so much in the process of making the art as it is in the conversation and empathy it might evoke.
