Self-Direction - Temptation comes in many forms but the strongest pressure arises from willing denial of satisfaction. This installation art piece illustrates a barrier that becomes apparent when resisting temptation. The idea stemmed from the break glass fire alarms where I wanted to make similar boxes from wood and plastic but change the design and physical appearance. To accompany the sweet treat filled boxes, I made some posters and leaflets for alongside the boxes for people to take if they felt they were intrigued to get inside the boxes. This allowed me to monitor people’s reactions and thoughts towards my work. This piece was a test where I was investigating whether people notice the boxes and just walk past, thinking nothing of it. Or if people will physically tamper with the boxes to access the tempting foods placed inside. This was proven to be a strong battle against temptation as many people try to resist the peer pressure to consume something sweet but in this case, the temptation was too great to resist.
