Bottles and Bushes

Beth Cadbury

This is a site-specific installation, relating to the themes: upcycling and sustainability. The aim behind this project was to raise awareness about helping to protect the environment. I selected an everyday object that can collectively create a lot of damage to the world. I chose a water bottle due to the fact that it is something that every person uses throughout their life, without really thinking about how much they are negatively effecting the environment, simply drinking from a bottle of water. I placed the bottles I collected in a bush to show that it doesn’t only effect humans but also nature, and to display how nature is being suffocated by the waste caused by man made products. The purpose of creating this installation was: to make people think about what they are buying and where it goes after they are finished with it; to promote recycling; to reduce littering and to show how easy it is to take something old and recycle it into something useful, in my instance a container for plants.
