Edinburgh is a city steeped in history, both in terms of architecture and physical geography. Claustrophobic concrete jungles full of noise and chaos come to mind when I think of a city, however this is very opposite to where I live. My piece focuses on the intricacies of Edinburgh’s architectural heritage, from formal Georgian townhouses to the grand and renowned Castle. Stimulation is key to my piece with variety in life highly important to me. I take huge pleasure in drawing detail and gain satisfaction in translating what I see into a graphic format. The variety of architecture of Edinburgh is what inspired me to create this piece as the connection between the old and new town is almost seamless, with many periods in history forming to create an incredibly dramatic backdrop. I have used fine liner to express this relationship and have used central landmarks as focal points with the eye then being drawn to rolling hills and foliage that Edinburgh is so well known for. I think my piece highlights Edinburgh’s architectural diversity successfully and believe it shows my simulative crave for detail and line.
